Information from Carol Ann
From My Family Tree
Here is the rest of the Pack family information I've been able to come up with by talking to a few cousins and compiling the names, dates, etc. I think I mentioned the last time I wrote that Granny Pack's family Bible never turned up (I talked with two of our Aunt Cora's children and they asked their siblings but none of them has it) so I need to explain about two of the Pack children. Uncle Roby's and Uncle Guilford's vital info. is missing. I talked to one of Uncle Roby's sons but he didn't know his dad's birthdate or date of death (long story of the usual kind, mainly divorce.) I know where Uncle Roby is buried (Old Hollow Primitive Baptist Church cemetery) here in Mt. Airy but since I have low vision and don't drive at present and my husband, James (aka Click to everybody in our family) has been having back and knee problems, we haven't been able to go to the cemetery and search for his grave site. Our Uncle Guilford's family has been out of touch with all of us for years, therefore I also don't have info. on him. So, am sending you what I have, beginning with Grandpa and Granny Pack's seven children from the oldest to the youngest, along with their children's names and some of their birthdates.
1.Roby Pack - married Lula May Hicks. Five sons were born from this union. - Archie Pack, died in infancy. -Ray Pack, born March 5, 1933 and died on July 28, 1988. - Wayne Pack, born on 12-30-1937. - Roger Pack, born on April 24, 1942 - Bruce Pack, born 1950, died in 952. - if you decide to include Wayne's and Roger's children, Wayne's phone number is 786-4419. He is a very nice person and will be glad to talk with and give you further information if needed. 2. William Gordon Pack, born June 23, 1904, died November 4, 1977. He had a son, Robert, by his first wife and a daughter, Sharon by his second wife. (Lived in both Mt. Airy and New Jersey but was living in Mt. Airy when he died.)
3. Guilford Pack (lived in Lowell, Massachusetts) - married Anna (no dates for this family as previously explained) and they had three children, Guilford Pack, Jr. (called Sonny) - Priscilla Pack and Linda Pack.
4.. Rada Elizabeth Pack, born May 29, 1912 and died August 16, 1980. Married William Howard Johnson. Three children were born from this union. James Howard Johnson, born April 6, 1938. Carol Ann Johnson, born October 24, 1939. Mary Frances Johnson, born July 20, 1942. James married Janie O'Neal Curtis on July 27, 1969 - no children. Carol married James Clifford Horton on April 12, 1958. From this union came three sons. James Clifford Horton, Jr., born March 4, 1959. - William Jefferson Horton, born April 22, 1961 and Joseph Anthony Horton, born April 27, 1963. Mary Frances Johnson married Bill Shaw (not sure about date) and they had two children, David Steven Shaw, born Sept. 3, 1961 and Chrystal Dawn Shaw, born January 7, 1969.
5. Delphia Taymer Pack, born May 22, 1915, died December 11, 2001. Married to Elbert Quesinberry and after his death, she married Dennis Jack Luffman. She had no children from either marriage.
6. Cora Alice Pack, born February 21, 1919, died June 6, 1990. She married Paul Alfred Owen on December 24, 1939 and six children were born to them. Paul Alfred Owen, Jr. born November 13, 1942 - Richard Gregory Owen, born January 18, 1945 - William Robert Owen, born August 8, 1947 - Peggy Sue Owen, born March 2, 1949 - and Tommy Lynn Owen, born July 10, 1957. Note: Contact persons for this family are Paul Owen, 'phone no. 320-2237 and Peggy Speas, 'phone no. 786-8951.
7. Mary Virginia Pack, born August 25, 1922, died October 22, 2005. She was married to Arnold Easter, Sr. and they had one son, Arnold Easter, Jr. born in Feb. of 1942, died in 1975. She later married Warren Harding McHone and six children were born of this union. Glenda, Garland, Mary Ann,Gary, Donnie and Donita. That's all I have been able to gather on the Pack family. I think I mentioned earlier that since Grandpa and Granny Pack lived in Kibler Valley in Patrick County, VA., there may be more information about them in that county's records. If you don't mind, I would like a copy of what you come up with in the Pack family history, other than what I have provided here. If you need to ask me any questions, call me at 786-2305 and I'll be more than happy to talk with you anytime or help in any other way I can. I remember meeting you but not for long so maybe we can also get together while you are working on this project. May have told you but in case I didn't, Click and I live in White Plains on 1551 Old Highway 601, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Take care, Bryan, and I hope to hear from you again as this project continues. Your Pack cousin, Carol Ann
I have been working on the Pack family info. and this is what I've come up with so far. The main item we need, i.e., Granny Pack's family Bible is nowhere to be found. After your mom told me none of her family has it, I called our cousin, Paul Owen, to see if he knew anything about it. He didn't but told me to call his sister which I did with no luck there either. Unless his younger brother obtained it after our Aunt Delphia passed away, I fear it is lost. Paul's siblings don't keep in touch so I'm thinking the Bible won't be available for our search. So - the following is a list of what I know so far but am hoping I can get more dates and info. as I continue searching.
William Fulcher (Dink) Pack, born April 1, 1880, died November 8, 1951.
He married Mattie Florence Thomas, born Sept. 21, 1884, died July 5, 1961.
Both of them lived (as I was always told) in the Kibler Valley area of Patrick County, Virginia. There might be recorded dates of their marriage and other Pack information in the Patrick County courthouse.
Dink and Mattie's seven children were as follows - am not sure about all their dates of birth or death but hope to find more through other family sources, etc.
Roby Pack
Guilford Pack
William Gordon Pack, born June 23, 1904, died June 4, 1977.
Rada Elizabeth Pack, born May 29, 1912, died August 16, 1980.
Delphia Taymer Pack, born May 22, 1915, died December 11, 2001
Cora Alice Pack, born February 22, 1919, died 1990 (not sure of date of death)
Mary Virginia Pack, born August 25, 1922, died October 22, 2005.
I am working on the individual status of each child and their children. Do you want each of the childrens' birthdates? I am pretty sure of all their names and can list them later.
Back to Grandpa (Dink) Pack's family. I know he had two sisters. One was named Haley and she married a Wilson, probably in Patrick County also. The other sister was only called "Sis" and I never knew her given name or if she married. Grandpa had a half brother (don't know how that went either) named Jim Pack. Jim lived near us in Flat Rock when I was young but later moved to Ivanhoe, Virginia.
Grandpa Pack worked on the WPA (Work Progress Administration) during President Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration.
More later. A thunderstorm is fast approaching and I usually unplug the computer when that happens.
At least this will give you a bit of the basic information you will need to research the Pack family and I will pass along info. as I gather it.
Take care.
Sincerely,
Your cousin Carol
